This series of high-end
books features novels of dark fiction that have been much celebrated
or are considered cornerstone works. At a rate of one or two books
each year, each novel will be given a deluxe treatment featuring:
- Binding in full leather or a leather and cloth combination
- Quality endpapers, sometimes illustrated
- Slipcase covered in cloth or handmade paper
- Original art, filled with interior illustrations (if appropriate
for the novel)
- Signatures by author and contributors
- An introduction or afterword or both
- Collectible print runs of 200-400 numbered copies and 15-26
lettered copies
Every book will be identical in height so all the books in the
series will line up nicely on a bookshelf. Note that because print
runs may be as low as 200 copies for each title, 200 people at most
will have the chance to acquire matching numbers for the entire
series.
The first novel in this series is the recently-published KING RAT
by China Mieville. GREEN MAN REVIEW said that at $85 it was "very
reasonably priced" because "you are getting one of the
best designed and printed books that you'll have the pleasure to
own ... a work that should win awards as an example of how to get
a book project right."
Matching numbers will be offered directly through Earthling and
through booksellers who choose to offer this service. First dibs
for matching numbers for each new title will be given to the person
who bought the preceding title; thus, the person who bought #100
of KING RAT has first dibs at #100 for SONG OF KALI.
